Biography

Ann Morris B.S., M.A., teacher, editor, award-winning author, has far-ranging interests –children, the arts, travel, education, cats, food. All are reflected in her work. She has taught children in public and private schools in the U.S. and as a Fulbright
exchange teacher in England. She has also taught aspiring teachers at Queens College of the City University of New York, Kean College, N.J. (where she was Writer-In-Residence), Bank Street College and William Paterson University.

Ann is an active volunteer in the Learning Leaders program in New York City. During numerous trips abroad, she has studied the history of English children’s books at Oxford University, led student-exchange programs, attended the annual Children’s Book Fair in Bologna, Italy, and researched a book about a famous children’s ballet school in Leningrad.

While living in Paris, she learned to appreciate
bread, cats, old markets and beautiful bridges, Her personal passion for the arts and travel are apparent in the titles of her more than 80 books for children published in the U.S., Britain, France, Italy, South Africa and Finland.

When she is not on an airplane or boat or bicycle, you are apt to find her in the library or at her computer working on her latest book.

My favorite place to work!

This is my volunteer group, Learning Leaders.

Selected Books

TSUNAMI, Helping Each Other
On December 26, 2004, a violent earthquake under the sea near northern Indonesia launched massive waves that struck more than one dozen countries. This book profiles two young boys who, along with their village, began to rebuild their lives in the midst of the destruction.
"Grandma Books"
What Was It Like, Grandma? Series
Grandmothers are the transmitters of culture. In each book, the grandma tells her family story through photographs, recipes and activities that help explore family traditions, cultures and languages.
"School Books"
That's Our School! Series
Kids always like looking "behind the scenes." This series shows them the daily work of some of their favorite elementary school figures and readers also get a peek at what they always wanted to know--where does everybody go when school is out? Each book is a warm-hearted and delightful visit with some very important people in a child's life.
